Challenge
Volt Studio made excellent work for other people and a forgettable website for themselves. Prospects arrived warm and left lukewarm, because the site said "competent" when the studio was "exceptional".
Strategy
We rebuilt the studio's presence as a system, not a page: a confident type scale, a restrained color logic, and a motion language that mirrored how the team actually presents work in the room.
Design Approach
The design centers on contrast and rhythm — dense, cinematic sections against airy editorial ones — so the eye is always being led somewhere on purpose.
Implementation
Built in Astro with a typed content layer so the team can add case studies in minutes. Motion is scroll-linked, reduced-motion safe, and never blocks the content.
Outcome
A site that closes the gap between the studio's reputation and its first impression — and a system the team can extend without a developer.
The brief, in one sentence
Make the studio’s website as good as the studio.
That sounds obvious until you see how many talented teams ship a site that quietly undersells them. Volt had the case studies, the clients and the craft — and a homepage that read like a placeholder nobody got back to.
What we changed
We started by deleting. The old site tried to say everything on the first screen, which is the same as saying nothing. The new homepage makes one claim, shows three proofs, and points clearly at the next step.
From there, the system did the heavy lifting:
- A single type scale that holds from caption to hero.
- Two accent colors with defined roles — one for action, one for motion.
- A scroll choreography that reveals work the way the team would walk you through it.
The result
The studio stopped explaining their website in meetings and started using it to start them. Inquiries arrived more qualified, and the team can now publish a new case study without opening a single component file.
“We needed a portfolio that could sell our studio before the first meeting. What we got was a system that does the job better than our pitch deck.”
